About Hopscotch Academy in Lawrenceville

At The Hopscotch Academy, we believe that every child is capable, curious, and full of potential. Our Reggio Emilia–inspired program emphasizes child-led exploration, project-based learning, and creativity through play. By fostering autonomous learning and meaningful parent–educator collaboration, we nurture children’s natural sense of wonder while equipping them with essential life skills.

We understand that early childhood is a time of rapid growth. That’s why we’ve created an environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to take risks, solve problems, and explore the world around them.

Our Story

Hopscotch Academy was born in 2021, during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our founder, with over 20 years of child care experience, saw an urgent need for innovative, flexible, and progressive early childhood education.

The inspiration for our approach came from a school report on Kobe Bryant, which revealed that he attended school in Reggio Emilia, Italy. This sparked a deep appreciation for the Reggio Emilia philosophy and its focus on creativity, independence, and child-centered learning. Believing that this philosophy could transform the way children learn, The Hopscotch Academy was founded to cultivate a lifelong love of learning in every child.

Our Programs

At The Hopscotch Academy, we welcome children as young as 3 months through 2nd grade. Each program is carefully designed to support the unique developmental stage of your child, using a Reggio Emilia–inspired, play-based, and project-based approach that encourages autonomous learning and cultivates essential social skills.

Our classrooms are warm, inviting spaces that encourage exploration, creativity, and collaboration. With an emphasis on outdoor learning, children spend up to 30% of their time outside, developing curiosity, resilience, and a strong connection with nature.

Arctic Room – 3 months to 1 year

Our infant program provides a nurturing, secure environment where babies can thrive. With individualized care, sensory play, and responsive interactions, we help your little one build a foundation of trust, comfort, and curiosity.

Rainforest Room – 1 year to 2 years

Toddlers are natural explorers, eager to test their independence. In the Rainforest Room, children engage in hands-on discovery, music, movement, and outdoor play. Our educators guide them through activities that encourage early social skills, self-expression, and problem-solving.

Marine Room – 2 years

Our Marine Room sparks imagination and discovery for curious 2-year-olds. Through play-based activities, child-led exploration, and early projects, children build communication, early literacy, and numeracy skills while learning cooperation and empathy through friendships.

Savannah Room – 3 years

The Savannah Room supports preschoolers as they grow more independent and eager to learn. With engaging lessons, creative expression, and opportunities for teamwork, children strengthen problem-solving abilities, expand their language, and develop school readiness skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Tundra Room – Pre-K (4 years)

In Pre-K, children gain the confidence and readiness needed for a smooth transition into kindergarten. Our Tundra Room introduces S.T.E.A.M. concepts and Spanish, encourages creativity, and nurtures both independence and collaboration through a Reggio-inspired approach.

The Olive Branch – Kinder to 5th Grade

For our school-age learners, The Olive Branch provides a supportive space where curiosity and creativity continue to flourish. With enrichment opportunities, outdoor play, and project-based activities, children develop problem-solving skills, leadership, and resilience—all while building friendships that last.

Outdoor Classroom

30% of our learning happens outdoors in our natural classroom. From reading on blankets to sensory play in tuft trays and cooking in our outdoor kitchen, children explore, create, and learn in the fresh air every day.

Merging Teaching and Childcare

We offer a variety of programs, including early education for infants and toddlers, preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and elementary.

We also offer in-house Summer Camp to our little learners.

We believe that it’s never too early to start learning and that it’s vital to always present opportunities for children to learn and grow as soon as they start at our preschool.

By developing our programs with curriculum experts and child care specialists, we’ve been able to hone in on what makes early education a success and created a learning program that allows our children to enter school seamlessly.
